Lisa - Kaisercraft St Nicholas

Hello again everyone-- Lisa here, with a couple of projects made with one of Kaisercraft's lovely Christmas ranges: St Nicholas. The colours in this collection of papers are lovely muted vintage shades, perfect for all manner of festive projects. I was given the task of decorating one of the Beyond the Page kits-- the Kaisercraft Christmas Tree. (which currently has 20% off in the shop, so it's a great time to buy and create your own Christmas-themed masterpiece!)

I decided to use the tree as a base to display festive-themed Instagram photos which I'd had printed out in a uniform size, but you could also use it for a stand to show off favourite family snaps from the year, or even to display treasured Christmas cards. The possibilities are endless. :)

I covered the "branches" in lovely vintage red papers from the range, and then added a length of vintage green vine-themed ribbon to give a little definition to the tree shape. The instagram photos are attached using tiny wooden clothespegs, decorated with embossed flowers with a silver rhinestone in the centre to add a little "bling." (And here's where I thank my lovely stepmum, Kathy, for helping out with those aforementioned flowers. Much appreciated!)
The top branch of the tree has a little cluster of embellishments put together from some of the St Nicholas collectables, and the very top of the tree also sports a collectable in the form of a poinsettia flower, partnered with a sheer silver fabric bloom.

The base of the tree has another little gathering of embellishments-- a lovely vintage Santa (another collectable), three paper poinsettia flowers, and a handmade paper rose made from a vintage book page. I also wound twine around the very bottom of the tree's trunk to addd yet another bit of dimension to it. (I would add a photo here showing it close-up, but everytime I attempt to upload it, it stubbornly remains sideways instead of the right way up, so you will have to use your imagination! Ah, technology...don't you just love it??)

The second project I made with the St Nicholas range was a card, using a template Liz taught in one of the Artfull Crafts Wednesday card classes a few weeks ago: a staircase card. It looks so effective and yet is deceptively simple to make, even for a relative cardmaking beginner like me! :)

I used the Papa Noel paper (the lovely old-fashioned script side) and gave it a slightly distressed look with inks and paints in gold and silver tones. Once again, the collectables were fantastic for layering and adding dimension and interest to the rest of the card, and all the colours worked well together to give the finished product a lovely vintage look.

The final touches were a little snippet of red and white striped twine on the bird tag, a rhinestone in the centre of the poinsettia flower, and a Kaisercraft paper flower. And that, as they say, is that! :)

I hope this inspires you to start on some festive crafting of your own, and as always, thanks so much for looking. :)

Cheers,
 Lisa
